I am a Head of Science at an 11 to 18 school in the North West of England. I have experience of teaching all three sciences to GCSE level and teaching physics to A level. Before becoming Head of Science I was KS3 Science co-ordinator where I was able to put my experience of evidence informed approaches into practice through devising a 3 year spiral curriculum.
Alongside my day to day roles in school, I have also been the Assistant Director for Blackpool Research School and the Programme Lead for Secondary Science for the Education Endowment foundation. My work with the Research School Network enabled me to be an advisor for the Education Endowment Foundation’ s ‘Improving Secondary Science’ guidance report. I worked with a team to review evidence summaries and create 7 key recommendations that bridge the gap between the research and the classroom.
This blog is a way for me to share my journey through middle leadership, the trials and tribulations of being a first time Head of Department and to share how I put evidence into practice.
